The Sacred Istikhara Supplication
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught the Companions to perform Istikhara in all matters just as he taught them verses of the Holy Quran (Sahih Bukhari). When contemplating love marriage, reciting the authentic Istikhara Dua connects you directly to Allah's infinite wisdom and mercy.
The Core Dua Translation: "O Allah, I seek Your counsel by Your knowledge, and I seek Your help by Your power, and I ask You from Your immense bounty. For You have power and I have none, and You know and I know not, and You are the Knower of the unseen..."
Transliteration of Istikhara Dua
"Allahumma inni astakhiruka bi'ilmika, wa astaqdiruka biqudratika, wa as'aluka min fadlika al-'azeem. Fa innaka taqdiru wa la aqdir, wa ta'lamu wa la a'lam, wa Anta 'Allamul-ghuyub. Allahumma in kunta ta'lamu anna hadhal-amra [mention marriage to so-and-so] khayrun li fi deeni wa ma'ashi wa 'aqibati amri, faqdurhu li wa yassirhu li thumma barik li feeh. Wa in kunta ta'lamu anna hadhal-amra sharrun li fi deeni wa ma'ashi wa 'aqibati amri, fasrifhu 'anni wasrifni 'anhu, waqdur li al-khayra haythu kana thumma ardini bih."
Step-by-Step Practical Guidelines
- Perform fresh Wudu and ensure clean clothes and quiet surroundings.
- Offer 2 Rakat Nafl prayer with sincerity and concentration.
- Immediately after completing the prayer, recite Durood Shareef and read the Istikhara Dua.
- When reaching the words "hadhal amra", mentally specify the marriage proposal with your partner's full name.
- Conclude with Durood Shareef and sleep on your right side facing the Qiblah.
